American Express Gas Card
While it may not sound like it from the promotional materials, the American Express Blue Cash card is actually an excellent gas rebate card. And with gas prices at their "holy crap" levels, anything you can do to save some money on gas is worth it. While it may seem like a pretty crappy consolation prize to $4/gallon gas, using a gas rebate card like the American Express Blue Cash Card at least means you get to save more money on every gallon you put into your vehicle. Here's how it works: You don't just automatically get 5% cashback on your gas or groceries with this card. You have to spend $6500.01 to start earning 5% cashback. Otherwise, you only earn 1.0%. Since you have to spend so much to start earning cashback, I can't give it my #1 ranking (that goes to the Discover Open Road Card). However, American Express does offer some cool features like a Built-in Smart Chip for added security and a 60 second of less decision. So it's a card that's definitely worth considering. Caveat: There is one catch though - while you do get a 0% introductory APR on the card for 6 months (which I have to admit is cool) you do need to make sure you pay off your card every month after that introductory rate expires otherwise that cashback will be useless as you'll be paying a heck of a lot more than that in interest. As
far as I'm concerned, everybody should be using a gas card these
days - it just makes sense. Just remember to pay off
your card every month and you can take advantage of the credit
card company and their generous offer - imagine that, you get to
take advantage of them for a change.
