Discover Gas Card
While it may seem like a pretty crappy consolation prize to $4/gallon gas, using a gas rebate card like the Discover Open Road Card at least means you get to save more money on every gallon you put into your vehicle. Here's how it works: Every time you fill up your gas tank and use your Discover card you get 5% of that money back. So let's say you put 20 gallons of gas in your tank at $4/gallon. That's $80, but if you were using a gas rebate card that gave you 5% CashBack then you'd have saved $4. And that kind of savings can add up to hundreds of dollars in gas every year. Not only do you get cash back for your gas purchases, but you get 5% cash back on car maintenance like oil changes and car washes. Plus you get 1% cash back on everything else you buy. And since the credit card is absolutely free (no annual fee, no application fee, etc) that means you should be using it. Caveat: There is one catch though - while you do get a 0% introductory APR on the card for 12 months (which I have to admit rocks) you do need to make sure you pay off your card every month after that introductory rate. Otherwise you may be getting 5% back on all your gas purchases but you'll be paying 15% or so in interest every month. As
far as I'm concerned, everybody should be using a gas card these
days - it just makes sense. Just remember to pay off
your card every month and you can take advantage of the credit
card company and their generous offer - imagine that, you get to
take advantage of them for a change.
